Abstract

A survey of car journey times carried out in London in 1970 is described. Journey times were made over eight radial and seven ring routes up to a radius of about 32 km. In addition the car journey times of 80 trips were measured during peak hours. From the surveys of ring and radial routes, curves were produced of average journey times by distance. Theoretical trip times from these curves were in good agreement with the actual times for the sampled trips. Journey time data are presented in tabulated form and as mathematical functions.
