Abstract

The all-plastics car is a buyer's dream and a manufacturer's nightmare. The irony is that such a vehicle is a theoretical possibility, but only for the lucky few. Plastics have played a role in the automobile right from the start. These materials have replaced about as much metal as they can in the average car. Their importance will only increase of the vehicle industry is prepared to take a calculated gamble.
