Abstract
Within the framework of a study on the effects of demographic changes on the use of public transport an investigation of car ownership and car use by the elderly was carried out. The aims of the study were as follows: (1) a comparison of car and licence ownership among persons between 50- 65 years old and older; (2) if people had disposed of their car, when this occurred and what the main reasons were; (3) a comparison of travel behaviour, in terms of mode choice and frequency of journeys.
