Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 60 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the methods currently being used to reduce the use of private vehicles. Included are articles on the promotion and improvement of the public transport infrastructure. Several abstracts look at the psychology behind car use and ways to change the mind-set. Abstracts are also included on changes in parking policy, taxation measures, road tolling and environmental implications. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1997 and 1999. Much of the relevant English language literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
