Abstract

A car recognition system introduced into a car dealer network consisting of 180 dealers in August 2005 is described. This is the first large-scale deployment of application systems with the use of the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) technology in Japan, and it is highly appreciated by the car dealers. The success factors of this deployment are examined and the necessary conditions for realization of ETC applications are derived; and the necessary conditions to penetration rate of on-board units, user's needs and expectations, and competitive superiority over the other solutions are outlined. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
