Abstract

This report draws out principles of successful environmental management from case studies of various projects. The case studies have been selected to cover a wide range of phases of road planning, construction, maintenance and operation. It identifies ten principles that appear to be strongly associated with successful project outcomes. The principles listed deal with sustainability, innovation, responsiveness, use of knowledge systems, matching solutions to problems, sharing responsibility, consultation and integration.
