Causes and consequences of lower extremity injuries.

Abstract

Lower extremity injuries to occupants of motor vehicle accidents are seldom fatal but temporary disability is very high. Severity and type of injury is not related to present day seat design, age or weight of vehicle. Passive and automatic restraining systems appear to be the solution.
