Abstract

Some causes and consequences of automobile accidents were studied in a one year consecutive series of all automobile accidents in Sweden where an automobile occupant was killed. The injuries, the preventive effect of seat belts, and the influence of unrestrained back seat occupants upon the injuries to the front seat occupants in head-on collisions where studied. The importance of psychoactive drugs as a cause of automobile accidents as well as the head and neck injuries sustained by riders of motorized two-wheel vehicles and the influence of protective helmets were studied.
