CCTV systems have a major role in transport authorities' fight against terrorism and crime. Following the 7 July bombings in London, UK, the number of CCTV cameras on the London Underground network is to be doubled to 12,000 by 2010. The Docklands Light Railway (DLR) has used Wavesight's trackside wireless radio system to send in-carriage CCTV images back to DLR's operations centre to combat vandalism and anti-social behaviour. As part of the refurbishment of the D78 stock used on London's District Line, cameras and digital video recorders from Innovonics will be installed. In New York, USA, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has commissioned Lockheed Martin to upgrade MTA's electronic security operations infrastructure. This will include provision of a mobile phone network able to work in the underground network. In Denmark, state rail operator DSB is deploying Verint's Networked Video Solution to enhance passenger security on the Copenhagen railway system.
