Abstract

This paper describes the objectives and the important achievements obtained so far by the European project CEMVOCAS. Indeed CEMVOCAS has for main objective to design and elaborate a centralised management system of the different vocal interfaces controlling various car-equipments, in order to guarantee a better Automotive Safety. This project is conducted by Matra Nortel communications (MATRA) and includes the Research Centers of FIAT (CRF) and Renault (RIEGIENOV), AKG, Metravib RDS, INRETS and University of Lisbon (UTL). In this first ending phase of the project, a first pilot demonstrator has been built in order to validate in a first time the CEMVOCAS Concept, indeed through a first main functionality which consists in the control of mobile phone incoming calls according to the driver's availability. In the next phases, the CEMVOCAS system will be extended to the management of typical vocal messages generated by other car-equipments such as a Navigation device. All these partners bring complementary industrial and scientific experiences to realise the CEMVOCAS system. (A*)
