Abstract

The first private operating company COPILOT for individual driver traffic guidance and traffic information systems in Germany became operational in summer 1994. Services will be offered in two initial regions: Stuttgart and Berlin. This paper describes the technical system employed, the services offered and the corresponding organizational issues in order to give the rationale for the business concept and operation. The company's commitment to the provision of dedicated, future-oriented services and to the adaptation to international standards of state-of-the-art technologies and system concepts are the key issues for the long-term success of such an enterprise.
