Abstract

Contusions of the brain surface from blunt impact of the head are best studied in the human. By definition, coup contusion is a contusion under the area of impact, whereas a contrecoup contusion is located in an area other than the region of impact. The biomechanics and the medical aspects of the "coup contrecoup" contusions are summarized.
