Abstract

Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS) that are currently being developed and implemented have not always considered U.S. standards and anti-discrimination laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This paper first discusses how APTS technologies that would both directly and indirectly affect elderly and disabled travelers must be designed to accommodate their special needs. Second, the paper describes the development and implementation of several advanced technologies in Community Transit of Delaware County, Pennsylvania. (A)
