Abstract

This report summarises some key findings of more than a decade of survey reports on safe driving by Brake and Direct Line, from 2003 to 2015. It tracks driver attitudes, knowledge and behaviour in relation to all aspects of safe driving, from fitness to drive to breaking traffic laws. This summary focuses on four key threads of the reports — fitness to drive, driver distraction, young drivers, and speed. It outlines the facts, trends, and makes key policy recommendations for improvement. The reports are based on regular representative surveys of 1,000 drivers from across the UK, carried out on behalf of Brake by research company Surveygoo.
