Abstract

A new look is taken at the traditional car-following model with a non-linear inter-car separation dependent term added. The model equations are solved numerically, using a Runge-Kutta algorithm and the transient and post-transient behaviour of the model is investigated. For certain parameter values, chaotic, oscillations with broad band frequency spectra are generated. The Grassberger-Procaccia dimension algorithm is used to measure the degree of chaos.
