Abstract

This study represents an intermediate product for a project being conducted by the European-American Center for Policy Analysis (EAC) for the Netherlands Ministry of Transportation, Public Works and Water Management. The project, Freight Optins for Road, Waterways, and Rail for the Dutch (FORWARD), is a policy analysis study of Dutch freight transportation. The FORWARD project plans to use analytic tools to estimate the effects of implementing various changes to the system. This substudy identifies the characteristics of existing Dutch freight transportation system models and some other models for which documentation was readily available. Based on these models' scope, level of detail, structure, operational characteristics, and variables, the analytic part of this report assesses the possibilities of using these models in the FORWARD project.
