Abstract

With the advance of on-board ITS units, the variety of auditory alerts has been on the increase recently. To contribute to creating effective alert sounds in the future, we studied the assignment method of characteristics of the auditory qualities (fundamental frequency, intermittent cycle, and sound pressure) of alerts in accordance with the system priority and the relationship between the alert sound and background noise. Automobiles are equipped with devices that emit various kinds of alert/warning sounds, such as light reminder, key reminder, door warning, and reverse warning. It is expected that the variety of alert/warning sounds will further increase, as automobiles become increasingly sophisticated and as Transport Information and Control Systems (TICS) advance.
