Abstract

This paper describes how the snowy region has serious problem related to the road surface condition about the slipperiness in driving the vehicle in winter. Informing the location of slippery road condition could contribute to ease the stress of driver. Based on this background, the authors conducted a pilot program that informs the location of slippery road condition by utilizing the data from the probe vehicle through the internet from 2006. By utilizing the increased number of probe car in 2007-2008 pilot program, biases that come from the shortage of the probe vehicle such as the mismatch between the location of the slip phenomenon and the location of the traffic accident are relaxed. Also, large number of events is obtained because taxi is used as the probe vehicle. In this paper, the findings from the pilot program are broadly shown, and the further directions of this system are discussed.
