Abstract

Results of a project to examine the characteristics of travel to outdoor recreational areas in Kentucky are discussed. Data were obtained by means of a licence plate, origin-destination survey at 160 sites within 42 recreational areas and by means of a continuous vehicle-counting program at 8 of these sites. Findings and conclusions on vehicle occupancy, types of vehicles, trip length, distribution of travel over time, and hourly volumes are reported.
