Abstract

One approach to providing increased mobility to disabled person has been the addition of lift equipment to fixed route transit buses. This paper discusses the characteristics of the users and non-users as well as their reactions to this service. Perhaps the most important conclusion is that lift-equipped services has little impact on the mobility of the disabled community as a whole due to factors such as bus stop and schedule convenience, service reliability and environmental barriers
