Abstract

The CHAUFFEUR Tow-Bar project relies on the availability of a suitable platform of electronic control systems upon which to develop the control schemes for autonomous driving in Tow-Bar. These systems, collectively denoted as Vehicle Base, are already in use in the normal truck production for governing functions of the engine, driveline and brakes, but their implementation may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer as well as from model to model. This article provides an overview of the vehicle base systems of the demonstrator vehicles built by Daimler Benz AG and IVECO for the CHAUFFEUR Tow-Bar project, highlighting the criteria under which these systems were analysed in the course of the project, in order to produce the specification for the adaptation of such components to the Tow-Bar needs.
