Abstract

The purpose of the study is to determine whether seat belt legislation has a significant effect on chest injuries. The average drop of admissions in 1976 when the use of seat belts became compulsory compared to 1974 and 1975 was 50%. In studying the length of time the patients stayed in hospital with chest injuries, this works out to a drop of almost 75%.
