Abstract

The 1997 Nationwide Personal Transportation Study provides a statistically based source of exposure information on the U.S. population. It can be used to calculate automobile travel patterns by age, sex, time of day, income, etc. Here the data are used to compare the travel patterns of adults, infants and children. Exposure information is combined with data on fatal accidents.
