Abstract

This article describes an investigation into the circumstances which led up to accidents to pedestrians under 16 years of age which took place at or near to pelican and zebra crossings in greater Manchester in 1986. The police reports of 183 such casualties were consulted. It was found that in at least half of the accidents on pedestrian crossings the driver failed to give precedence to pedestrians.
