Abstract

This paper deals with some of the key advances that occurred in the regulatory domain of the design and testing of child restraint systems. Design of rear seats in vehicles is discussed in relation to enhancing child protection in both frontal and side impacts. Vehicle structural stiffness is also discussed in terms of the mitigation of increased forces on the occupant. Key challenges in terms of side impact test procedures and enhancement of the regulations are considered. For the covering abstract see ITRD E141762.
