Abstract

The history of the use of child restraint systems in Sweden is outlined. Statistics are given for the number of children killed in road accidents in the 1960s and the improvements that have been made to these figures by campaigns to encourage seatbelt use. A particular success has been the use of rear-facing seats for the under threes. Problems are noted however with the use of rear-facing restraints in conjunction with air bag systems.
