Abstract

This research study was an exploratory investigation into risk and protective factors within families that are associated with children's experiences as pedestrians. The risk perspective taken for this study resulted from research evidence identifying the characteristics of individual children, families and environments that predict elevated rates of pedestrian injury. As is the case with other types of unintentional injury, despite evidence identifying predictors of injury risk, there is a lack of evidence showing how these risk characteristics contribute to injury outcomes for children.
