Abstract

Children use streets as playgrounds, in spite of danger from traffic. Attempts have been made to deal with the problem by improving playgrounds; creating temporary play streets and transforming streets into residential yards. Not all of these attempts have been successful at drawing children away from streets or street- like areas. Those that have succeeded have incorporated positive elements of the street into the design solution.
