Choosing avoidance manoeuvres in emergency situations.

Abstract

In-depth analysis of real accidents carried out in France have shown that lateral avoidance is under-used, considering the gains to be derived if performed properly. The results of two accident studies dealing with emergency situations, and two experimental research projects, which try to steed light on the excessive use of braking are described.
