The Hague has a history in intelligent transportation system (ITS) involvement. From 2000 onwards the city has developed and built its own Urban Traffic Management Center and several innovative applications, like information systems for recreational traffic towards the Scheveningen beach resort, catering for more than 10 million visitors a year. This innovation includes a new full color information panel that is in use for many purposes, and a dynamic bus lane consisting of light emitting diode (LED)-panels in the road surface. The policy for ITS implementations is one of an integrated and for a certain area approach, like the one for Scheveningen area.
