Abstract

This article presents the results of research, which concentrated on the possible application in pavement construction of fly ash from power stations which use powdered coal under relatively high furnace temperatures. The research limited itself to the application of fly ash without addition into bituminous mixtures. The first part of this paper explains the objectives of the research and the selection criterion for the choice of the fly ashes investigated. The results of the measurements taken using the fly ashes and the reference filler are then presented. The choice and composition of the bituminous mixtures are indicated and the results of the research on the various mixtures presented. During the research the mixability and compactability of the various mixtures are assessed through visual evaluation. Finally the results of the selected fly ashes as well as the bituminous mixtures are tested against the current specifications and standards. Conclusions and recommendations are also provided.
