Abstract

The aim of this project is to contribute to a balanced comparison of the environmental impact and the tax situations for domestic air transport and other modes of transport in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. At a time when attention is focused on the environment, many people perceive air transport as less environment-friendly than other modes of transport. This is certainly the case in the debate about CO2 emissions in different modes of transport and targets for reducing total emissions in the transport sector. The analyses show that comparisons of energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the different modes of transport are not as unambiguously to the detriment of air transport as it often appears in the public debate.
