Abstract

This paper presents a newly developed airbag concept featuring a new pyrotechnic clean gas generator, with lower gas pressure and a lighter bag. Customer expectations include safety and minimal discomfort, while suppliers require simple design and low weight and cost. Clean gas has benefits of energy efficiency and no dust. Low confinement pressure reduces speed of gas flow and weight of hardware and makes recycling easier and safer. The product is described: combustible gases react with ammonium nitrate, delivering clean, chemically neutral gases. Hardware components are consistent with simple, low-cost mass production. Testing is in progress including simulation modelling. For the covering abstract see ITRD E126782.
