Abstract

The main goal of the road environmental concept is to decrease the material loss and the number of injured persons and fatalities in cases when a vehicle leaves the road. In order to achieve this in reasonable and financially acceptable terms, a free zone outside the pavement margin has been designed for safe vehicle control maintenance. Some of the initial results of the investigations on which the concept has been based and actual tendencies have been applied, are discussed.
