Abstract

CLEOPATRA is a project supported by the European Commission and aiming at developing the traffic information and route guidance systems. The traffic monitoring applications take an important part in the project as it is essential for the quality of the final users information. This paper concentrates on the application of traffic monitoring made in the Lyon test site. The partners have implemented there an advanced dynamic traffic management tool, including a path flow estimator, a journey time predictor and a message builder for the Variable Messages Signs. The architecture, the functions and the databases of the system are described, as well as the evaluation plan. The full results of the implementation will be available later on in 1997. (A)
