Abstract

A stereometric close-range photogrammetry data acquisition system was developed to collect and process accident data using digital image based format. Integration is made with image processing and GIS.A pre-calibrated short based dual camera set-up is used for the purpose of image capturing. The system represents a trend toward automation of the measurement process and semi real time solution by providing 3D co-ordinates together with time. A user-friendly system was developed using off the shelf hardware components such as a PC and video technology. Useful information may be extracted including vehicle pathway mapping, speed, vehicle size and dimensions, road layout and depiction of the accident scene. The data could be used to build an integrated GIS and through GIS the collected data could be pre-processed, managed, manipulated, analysed and displayed.
