Abstract

An investigation is described showing that judder is a mechanical resonance phenomenon caused by cyclic variations in the load on the clutch, and the conditions under which it occurs are described. The practical implications of this work are discussed with particular emphasis being made on how to reduce the tendency of a clutch to judder.
