Abstract

There are 18 sections to this Code of Practice on the safety of loads on vehicles, sections 1-6 cover general requirements: (1) introduction; (2) principles of load safety; (3) choice of vehicle and arrangement of loads; (4) anchorage points, headboards and internal partitions; (5) load security equipment; (6) general requirements for securing loads - lashings, sheeting, netting, blocking, dunnage, friction, load anchorage points. Section 7 to 18 cover additional requirements for specific types of load: (7) general freight (including restraint equipment, restraint methods); (8) metal loads; (9) timber loads; (10) loose bulk loads; (11) pallets; (12) containers; (13) engineering plant; (14) vehicles and trailers carried on other vehicles; (15) carriage of dangerous goods; (16) curtain sided vehicles; (17) sheet glass; (18) vehicle equipment. There are also 6 appendices: (a) regulations concerning the safety of loads on vehicles; (b) dangerous goods carried by road vehicles, regulations; (c) regulations on transit of animals by road vehicles; (d) outline risk assessment; (e) terms and definitions; (f) relevant British Standards. (This Code of Practice was first published in 1972 (IRRD 204344), 2nd edition 1984 (IRRD 855138)).
