Abstract

One key concept for improving ATM (air traffic management) is the introduction of Collaborative Decision Making (CDM). CDM has been promoted as a cure-all for the problems of ATM in Europe. While this is certainly not the case, it has scope for improving the efficiency of usage of resources in airlines, airports and ATM. Within Europe a number of projects have investigated the requirements and opportunities for CDM. This paper gives an overview of the first practical CDM experiment that will be conducted in Europe in the Air CDM Demonstrator (A-CDM-D) project started in 1999, with funding from DGXIII TEN-Telecom.
