Abstract

This article describes how personal injury accident data are collected, collated and made available to the Department of Transport (DoT) and other highway authorities. It also describes, in outline, how those data are utilised by DoT. It covers the process from when the details of an accident are recorded by a police officer on a STATS19 report form, to the production of analyses, tables and commentaries on the data as used in this and other publications.
