Abstract

Optimal receivers have been widely used in many applications and especially for radar. These receivers, based on correlation or matched filtering, give a maximum output signal to noise ratio at the decision time. This paper presents a correlation receiver associated to a pseudo-random sequence coded radar waveform. This system is dedicated to the anticollision application. A theoretical study completed by simulations is presented. Experiments have been carried out at 10 GHz to show the validity of this method. The combination between an optimal receiver and digital coding techniques seems to be very adapted to obstacle detection. Our aims in designing the system were efficiency together with low cost, low emitted power and large distance range coverage for target detection. These goals are very difficult to achieve simultaneously using other more classical techniques applied in the field of anticollision radars.
