Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 80 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the technological and human factors involved in recent developments in collision avoidance systems for drivers. Specific topics covered by the abstracts include the design, modelling and simulation, experimental testing, development, marketing and evaluation of front and rear collision avoidance systems, autonomous vehicle navigation, the use of sensors and radar to detect obstacles, headway maintenance, cruise control, advance brake warning systems, warning systems for parking and reversing, etc. Also included are the applications of telematics for such systems, studies of driver reaction to the systems, and a number of descriptions of research projects, for example, in Japan, the USA, the European Union. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1995 and 1998. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Road Research Documentation (IRRD) database.
