Abstract

This issue of Current Topics includes over 65 abstracts of reports, conference papers, books and journal articles which focus on the technological and human factors involved in recent developments in collision avoidance systems for drivers. Specific topics covered by the abstracts include the design, modelling and simulation, experimental testing, development, marketing and evaluation of front and rear collision avoidance systems, autonomous vehicle navigation, the use of sensors and radar to detect obstacles, headway maintenance, cruise control, advance brake warning systems, etc. Also included are the applications of telematics for such systems and studies of driver reaction to the systems. These items have been selected from the material added to the Transport Research Laboratory's Library Database between 1999 and 2002. Much of the relevant English language published literature from the UK, USA, Australia and Europe is included; some of the non-UK literature is included courtesy of the OECD International Transport Research Documentation (ITRD) database. Abstracts for the years 1995-1998 can be found in a previous issue of this title (Current Topics in Transport 96.1 (C 12162 S (IRRD 493096)
