Abstract

Methods used in a South African accident research project are described. Organization, data requirements, sampling criteria, and data collection are discussed. Although the author recognizes limitations in the case study method of accident investigation, he considers it to be the most effective means of obtaining more insight into the causative factors involved in particular accidents and into the local road accident problem as a whole. An example of the accident report form is included.
