Abstract

Residence location and transportation mode choice are two critical decisions in forecasting traffic demand. A trip survey can partly help planners understand the decision process of citizens. The sociological and economic characteristics of individuals, which may be not easy to explain, are also very important factors that influence the decision. This paper gives a combined survey method to show how people make these decisions. The combined survey includes a social research and a resident trip survey. This paper evaluates choice results and satisfaction index by the combined survey in GIS. A case study shows the application of using the combined survey in forecasting traffic demand.
