Abstract

Wireless communication technologies expand the functionality of in-vehicle navigation systems with connectivity to remote applications such as ITS services and Internet. This paper introduces a new approach for in-vehicle navigation system application using wireless communication technologies. The scheme consists of a wireless communication device, TCP/IP and its API, and several agents for supporting different applications such as MAY-DAY or HTTP. The authors are particularly interested in utilizing unique functionality of navigation systems and Internet to improve ITS services, and demonstrate the flexibility of a new Internet PUSH traffic information scheme to support ITS services.
