Abstract

The present ideas about concentrated urbanization in The Netherlands are, among others, in Amsterdam typified by the meaning of compact city. In this paper a short description is presented of urbanization developments in the past few decades related to transportation and aimed to clearify the present situation. Key elements introduced are various types of spatial stresses (in housing; in road capacity; parking supply etc) and locational preferences.
