Abstract

This paper analyses the economic advantages and disadvantages of some representative trucks, with the aim of providing criteria to help select the most favourable vehicles for transportation services. For each vehicle type considered, an economic efficiency index expressed in terms of costs can be defined for comparison. The highway consumption cost was generated by calculating the wear cost over specified section of road and the damage cost on a bridge section. Vehicle operating costs were also defined. In general terms, trucks should be used which have high transportation capacity and several axles. This advantage is especially significant for low economic density products.
