Comparative head-on impact tests of cars with either front transverse or rear mounted engines.

Abstract

The impact performance of three models of car with front engines (transversely mounted) and front wheel drive and three models with rear engines and rear wheel drive have been determined by driving them head-on into a massive concrete barrier. Dummy occupants provided with different types of safety belt were carried in fifteen of the total of sixteen cars.
