Abstract

This study evaluates four IEEE802.11 models included in three different wireless network simulators, i.e., ns-2, QualNet and Scenargie, for building an integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) simulation framework. The study first examines these models and simulators qualitatively, and presents quantitative results on the accuracy of simulation results at the Medium Access Control (MAC) sub-layer. The study shows that simulation results from these models for even a simple network scenario vary significantly, and describes several modeling factors that can affect the accuracyof simulation results.
